Houston Airports joins TSA in educating air travelers with pets.
With the holiday travel period set to begin in mid-November, Houston Airports and the Transportation Security Administration are expecting to see a marked increase in the number of pets brought to the security checkpoints at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport.
“It is dangerous to put pets through X-ray machines, as it exposes them to unnecessary radiation,” said Cory Stottlemyer, Spokesman for BARC Animal Shelter. “On top of this, X-ray machines can also be extremely stressful for pets. The loud noises and unfamiliar surroundings can be overwhelming and cause anxiety, leading to behavioral problems, such as aggression or excessive barking, which can lead to the pet possibly being denied entry onto the flight.”
From qualifying for application reimbursement to taking advantage of a new mobile application process, Houston Airports is sharing vital information from its federal agency partners to make travel safer and more efficient.LEARN MORE

Houston Airports celebrates a year of its Artist in Residence Program
The interactive visual arts program, which launched in September 2022, encourages engagement between local artists and airport guests. One artist works inside Terminal A at Bush Airport, and a second artist works just past TSA security at Hobby Airport. During their three-month-long residency, Houston Airports provides each artist with an easel, workstation, and a monthly stipend to cover art supplies. The artists will own what they create. However, in support of the program, each artist shares one of their finished works for temporary display by Houston Airports. READ MORE

Handcrafted trusses to support canopy entrance of new international terminal at Bush Airport
The new and expanded departures curb will feature eight large-span steel structures, which weigh 80 tons and stretch 209 feet.
This fall, change is coming to Houston. Temperatures are beginning to drop; the sun is starting to set earlier in the day, and construction of the new international terminal at George Bush Intercontinental Airport is moving into its next season.
Eight trusses, which are large-span steel structures, will help to support a 50,000 square-foot canopy over the new Departures Curb at the International Central Processor, or ICP. The trusses are designed to look like leaves and are considered to be one of the signature features of the ICP exterior design, explained Khalid Radwan, Executive Program Manager for the IAH International Redevelopment Program. Giant leaps start in Houston!
NASA's first asteroid sample landed at Ellington Airport in September before it was carefully loaded into a box truck and driven to NASA Johnson Space Center. It took years of hard work by NASA's OSIRIS-REx team to collect a capsule of rocks and dust from asteroid Bennu. The capsule landed at a federal test and training facility in Utah before its contents were eventually flown to Houston.
The returned samples collected from Bennu will help scientists worldwide make discoveries to better understand planet formation and the origin of organics and water that led to life on Earth, as well as benefit all of humanity by learning more about potentially hazardous asteroids. READ MORE.
